How Yazbeck Reads Its Books in Both US Dollars and Lebanese Pounds

Yazbeck is a Lebanese trading group whose Odoo system covers accounting, shop sales, an online store, stock and purchasing. Al Jawad Software House delivered the accounting setup that lets the group keep its books in US dollars and still read them in Lebanese pounds.

Where the work gets hard

One rate is not enough. Standard Odoo applies a single conversion rate per currency. The rate that applies can differ from one document to the next.

Reports must agree. If amounts are converted only when a report runs, two people can read two different answers.

Every document counts. Invoices, entries and payments all need the same treatment, or the books drift apart.

What we implemented

An editable rate on every document

Journal entries, their lines and payments carry a rate that the user can set. By default it comes from the currency table.

Both amounts stored

Debit, credit and balance are kept in dollars and in pounds on every journal item, so reports read from one ledger instead of converting as they go. The payment wizard follows the same rule.

Both currencies stored

Reports with a currency choice

The balance sheet, profit and loss, trial balance, general ledger and partner ledger each have a currency selector.

One ledger, five reports

How the work gets easier

The usual wayWith the new process
One system rate is applied to everythingEach document can carry its own rate
Pound figures are worked out when neededBoth amounts are stored and ready
Reports are converted after the factEach report is read in the chosen currency

The accounts team works from one set of books, whichever currency the question comes in.
